The many owners of this field over the years have been careful not to move this stone. Instead they plow around it, showing respect for its sacred history. Penal Laws imposed on the Catholics forced them to, among other things, hold Mass in secret. This stone is widely thought to have been used as an altar for Mass, dressed in petticoats by the local women.
